Welcoming the CHC AGRITECH team was Hon. Benjamin B. Magalong. He was updated by the team with the current developments on the various involvement of the probiotics company in training Baguio City’s urban gardeners composed of rooftop and backyard vegetable raisers, hydroponics practitioners and yard livestock raisers. The team also highlighted the recent successful training-seminar done last March 11, 2020 with Barangay Happy Hallow’s Urban and Backyard Farmers, where participants learned the use and proper application of probiotics in maximizing productivity in limited farming spaces.

Mayor Magalong directed the CHC AGRITECH Team to formulate possible sustainable solutions in solving the sanitation problems in Wright Park and Horse Oval (both places for children and adults who love to ride horses), one of Baguio City’s key tourist destinations. The Mayor likewise led the team to Atty. Rhenan G. Dawis, City Environment Parks and Management Office Division (CEPMO) Division head, to address environmental issues of Baguio City’s Sewerage Treatment Plant. According to Atty. Dawis, he’s been looking for a product that can effectively eradicate both odor and harmful microbes for water and sludge treatment and it was very timely that CHC AGRITECH introduced its products.

A highly urbanized city with an estimated population of 330,000, Baguio City is the Summer Capital of the Philippines and an education hub. Tourism, education and a place of rich Philippine arts and culture, the city’s fast growth and development comes with many environmental challenges.

On top of the list is city sewerage. While a third of the city’s septic tank is connected to the sanitary sewerage network served by the BSTP (Baguio Sewerage Treatment Plant), its capacity of around 8,000 cum/day is now being stretched to a current inflow of 12,000 cum/day. Such over-capacity coupled with untreated discharges from communal septic tanks compounds further deterioration of the city’s river systems. It is now the task of the CHC AGRITECH Team to formulate a viable solution to improve the efficiency of the 34-year-old BSTP facility.

CHC AGRITECH, a 100% Filipino-owned biotech distribution company established in 2016, is a division of Classique Herbs Corporation which has been distributing quality health and wellness products since 2002. An Information Caravan in Regions I, II, III, and CAR is currently being made by CHC AGRITECH as part of the company’s aggressive campaign in increasing consciousness in applying probiotics on matters of water and solid waste management, crops, aquaculture, poultry and livestock. Japanese microbiologist and enzymologist Dr. Tetsuo Kamekawa, inventor of CHC products, has formulated a very powerful unique combination of bacteria, fungi and enzymes designed to deliver remarkable results in the niche of probiotics in the Philippines. Dr. Kamekawa was one of the active partakers in the clean-up movement during the 2006 Guimaras oil spill in Panay Gulf. It was in that episode the doctor demonstrated the power of his product, leading to the immediate recovery of the Panay shores, mangroves, corals and other sea ecosystems.
